Gloves & wraps: what you need.
You need two things to box at West End Athletic Club: boxing gloves and hand wraps. Here is what to look for, for adults and for kids, and where to get them.
The basics.
Bring both to your first class.
Hand wraps first
Wraps go on under the gloves and support your wrists and knuckles. Your coach shows you how to wrap in Intro To Boxing.
Then gloves
Training gloves for bag and pad work. Fit matters more than brand: snug, with room for wrapped hands.
Get them at the gym
The club sells gloves and wraps. West End’s branded gloves are comparable to an entry-level Everlast set.
Ask a coach
Not sure of the size? A coach at the front desk will help you choose before you buy.
Adults, teens and kids.
A coach will confirm the right fit.
Adults
Bring training gloves and hand wraps. A coach can tell you what fits your hands and build.
Teens (9–16)
Youth Boxing Academy members need their own gloves and wraps sized for their hands.
Little Warriors (4–8)
Small gloves made for children. Ask a youth coach before buying so they fit from the first class.
Women of West End
The 4-Week Confidence Challenge includes 15% off gloves and hand wraps.
What to expect at your first class.
No experience needed. The coaches adjust every drill to you.
Arrive a little early
Come 10 to 15 minutes before class and check in at the front desk. The staff walk you through registration, and parking at the rear is free.
What to bring
Comfortable athletic clothing, a water bottle, boxing gloves and hand wraps, and your own towel (towels are not provided). No gloves yet? The club sells gloves and wraps at the gym.
How the class runs
Intro To Boxing is 30 minutes: hand wraps, stance, first combinations and what a real class feels like. Regular classes are 50 minutes of coach-led work on the bags and pads. No contact.
After you train
Showers and changing rooms, free lockers for the day (bring a lock or buy one at the gym), a sauna, and an espresso bar with protein shakes.
