The Night

Friday Night Fights VIII put 15 amateur bouts in the ring at West End Athletic Club, with athletes, coaches and representatives from some of the most respected boxing clubs in Ontario and beyond.

The card mixed every level of the sport: fighters making their boxing debut, experienced amateurs still building their careers, and champions with titles at the provincial and national level, from the Brampton Cup and from the Novice Tournament.

We were also proud to welcome Pan-Am Boxing Club from Winnipeg, Manitoba, a first step in taking Friday Night Fights beyond Ontario.

Three debuts on home turf

Three West End Athletic Club fighters made their amateur debut in front of their home crowd. Stepping between the ropes for the first time takes courage, discipline and months of preparation. Doing it in your own gym, with family, friends and teammates ringside, is a different kind of pressure. Vinny could not be prouder of how they represented the West End family.

And ringside, Canadian boxing royalty: legendary fighters, past and present Canadian and world champions, and contenders, there to support the next generation.

A word from the promoter

Friday Night Fights VIII was an evening I will remember for the rest of my life.

What we accomplished went far beyond organizing a successful boxing event. We brought together athletes, coaches, champions, families, businesses, and an entire community united by a shared passion for boxing.

First and foremost, thank you to every fighter who had the courage to step between those ropes. Whether making your amateur debut or competing as an established champion, you demonstrated the courage, discipline, and heart that define our sport. Without you, none of this would have been possible.

To the participating boxing clubs and coaches, thank you for trusting us with your athletes and helping us create the most exciting card to date. To my West End coaching staff, whom I’ve always considered my dream team, thank you for your loyalty, dedication, and belief in our vision. And to our three West End fighters who made their amateur debuts on home turf, I couldn’t be prouder of how you represented our family.

It was also an incredible honour to welcome what I can only describe as Canadian boxing royalty, including legendary fighters, past and present Canadian and world champions, and championship contenders. Many of you inspired generations of athletes, myself included. Having you alongside the next generation of fighters made the evening even more meaningful. Thank you for being part of it.

A special thank you to Toronto City Councillor Brad Bradford for joining us and delivering such a passionate speech. His reminder that Toronto is worth fighting for couldn’t have been more fitting in a room filled with people who understand what it means to fight for something they believe in. We were honoured to experience his fighting spirit firsthand and grateful for his recognition of our homegrown talent.

To our sponsors and business partners, thank you for believing in our vision and helping elevate this event to another level. To Boxing Ontario, Dr. Randy, Suzy, and all the officials, thank you for your professionalism and commitment to our athletes.

To my incredible staff, technicians, production crew, and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and the night of, thank you for keeping everything running smoothly. I couldn’t ask for a better team.

To our ring announcer for bringing that unmistakable thundering golden voice, and our photographers and videographers for capturing memories that will last a lifetime, your contributions were invaluable.

To our DJ and live entertainment partners, thank you for creating the soundtrack to an unforgettable evening. From the signature fighter walkouts to the music that kept the crowd energized between bouts, you set the tone, maintained the momentum, and brought an atmosphere that carried us from the opening moments to the final bell.

To everyone who attended, watched our international livestream, or supported us from afar, thank you. The atmosphere inside West End was electric, and that energy came from you. To our members, friends, and the entire West End family who showed up in full force, you reminded me why this place is so special.

But above everyone else, I want to thank my family. Everything West End Athletic Club represents, and everything I hope to accomplish, stands on the foundation they built through years of sacrifice, hard work, and unwavering belief. There would be no West End without them, and I would not be the person I am today without the values they instilled in me.

My family gave me a foundation to stand on. My responsibility is to build something worthy of their sacrifices, honour our name, and create opportunities for generations to come.

We accomplished something extraordinary because we surrounded ourselves with people who shared our vision and refused to compromise on our standards. Great things are never built by one person. They are built by people who believe in something greater than themselves. That is what Friday Night Fights represents.

We’re not simply organizing boxing events. We’re creating opportunities for athletes, honouring the champions who paved the way, uniting communities, and building what we believe can become one of Canada’s premier amateur boxing showcases.

Friday Night Fights VIII showed us what is possible. Friday Night Fights IX will show everyone just how far we intend to take it.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who believed in us. We’re not finished. We’re just getting started.
