Boxing in Etobicoke, Answered
Everything people ask before their first class at West End Athletic Club: the intro offer, memberships, youth boxing, the facility, and the fight team. Can’t find your question? Ask us directly.
Do I need any boxing experience to start?
Not at all. Most of our members started with little or no boxing experience. Our coaches teach the fundamentals step-by-step in a supportive, welcoming environment.
How does the 3 Classes for $30 intro work?
Pick any three coach-led group classes from the weekly schedule and pay $30 once. No contract, no auto-enrollment, no pressure. New members only. After class three, you decide what's next.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable athletic clothing, a water bottle, and a willingness to learn. If you don't have boxing equipment yet, we'll help guide you through what you need.
Will I have to spar?
No. Sparring is completely optional. Most members train for fitness, skill, confidence, and stress relief without ever sparring. For those interested, progression is coach-supervised and only introduced when appropriate.
Is the $30 refundable if it's not for me?
Talk to the front desk before you book: 416-621-1234. What we can promise up front: one payment, no auto-enrollment, and zero pressure after your three classes.
What classes do you offer?
Beginner boxing (The Boxing Blueprint), fitness boxing, boxing bootcamp, bag work, strength & conditioning, women's-only classes, youth boxing for ages 4–16, beginner sparring, and an amateur fight team. Every class runs 50 minutes.
What's the difference between a class and open gym?
Classes are structured, coach-led sessions designed around specific goals and skill development. Open gym lets you train independently using the boxing equipment, fitness area, ring, bags, and strength equipment during designated hours.
How many times per week should I train?
For most members, 2 to 4 sessions per week produces excellent results. Our coaches can recommend a schedule based on your goals, experience, and availability.
Do you offer personal training?
Group classes are the heart of West End. For one-on-one coaching, call the club at 416-621-1234 and ask about coach availability.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
Memberships run on 6-month and 12-month terms, and the intro offer carries no commitment at all. Full details are on the memberships page, and members stay because they love the room, not because they're locked in.
Can I freeze or cancel my membership?
Memberships can be placed on hold for medical reasons, travel, work commitments, or other significant life circumstances. Cancellations follow a 30-day written notice to info@westendac.com.
What membership options are available?
Open Gym, Unlimited (all group classes plus open gym), Fight Team, and the Youth Academy, on 6- or 12-month terms with family discounts for youth. See the memberships page for what each includes.
Where are you located, and is there parking?
283 Bering Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 3A5, with free on-site parking and additional street parking nearby.
Are showers, lockers and a sauna included?
Yes. Members have access to locker rooms, showers, and sauna facilities as part of their membership experience.
Who are the coaches?
Eight certified coaches lead the floor, including a former 3-time Canadian Heavyweight Champion. Meet the whole team on our About page.
Is West End a real boxing gym or a fitness studio?
Both things are true. It's a real boxing gym: a full ring, a bag floor, a strength area, and an amateur fight team. And the classes are built so complete beginners can walk in on day one.
What's the facility like?
10,000 sq ft in Toronto's west end: boxing ring, bag room, Eleiko strength platform, conditioning area, sauna, locker rooms, and a coffee bar.
Do you offer women's-only classes?
Yes: Box & Burn and Sculpt & Strong are women's-only. Supportive, no-ego, and open to all levels.
What ages do you accept for youth boxing?
Ages 4 to 16. Little Warriors serves ages 4–8 and the Youth Boxing Academy serves ages 8–16.
Is boxing safe for kids?
The youth program is non-contact. Kids learn footwork, the six basic punches, and defence, and build discipline, focus, confidence, and resilience along the way.
How does the Band System® work?
West End's Band System® tracks a young boxer's progress through six levels: Beginner Levels 1–3 cover movement, the six punches, and basic defence; Advanced Levels 4–6 add combinations, pivots, and counter-punching. It measures more than technique: coachability, focus, and attitude count.
Can my child try a class before joining?
Yes. Call the club at 416-621-1234 and we'll set up your child's first visit.
Do you have daytime classes?
